The 1st Annual Charmayne James Race in the Rockies took place July 17-18 in the picturesque Colorado mountain town of Westcliffe, Colo., where A Painted View Ranch owners Donna and Ralph Hood welcomed barrel racers from as far as Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, the Dakotas and even Tennessee. The quaint mountain community came alive with barrel racing action set against a Sangre de Cristo Mountain range backdrop.

The action was fast and fierce, with former DNCFR champion and NFR qualifier Shali Lord and Cashin Ease (“Cowboy”) running away with the Open 1D average victory and a bevy of prices—including Charmayne James Signature Series products and a Bob Berg trophy buckle. Other average winners included: Debbie Roberts and Moon Bar Snip (2D), Linda Dyson Nonstop and Firewater Flo (3D), Jo Wilson and A Classic View (4D), Jordan McConnell
