Promise Me A Wagon & Cody Bauserman wins $100,000 at BFA $uper$takes PDF Print E-mail

While discussing prospects with Barrel Horse News in the summer of 2011, Cody Bauserman talked about the future super stars of barrel racing. He talked about the importance of pedigree saying, “We’re starting to run the babies out of mares that we ran 15 years ago, and it sure makes it a lot easier to train them. We’ve almost come to where we have our own breeding for barrels.”

The Sallisaw, Okla., trainer made reference to two yearling geldings by PYC Paint Your Wagon out of champion barrel horse performer and producer Pie Sky Promises. He said, “They’re going to find a way to turn a barrel and do it fast.”

Promise Me A Wagon, one of those geldings, did just that, winning the $220,000 BFA $uper$takes. His share was a cool $100,000.

Bred by Dorothy Charette of Lexington, Okla., Promise Me A Wagon was purchased by Bauserman in the summer of 2011. Although the gelding is by a leading racehorse sire, Promise Me A Wagon has one of the most potent maternal lines in barrel racing history.

His dam, Pie Sky Promises, by Pie In The Sky, is out of the great barrel horse producer, Joyous Bugs, by the all-time leading broodmare sire of barrel horses Bugs Alive In 75.

Pie Sky Promises is also the dam of Promises To Dash, a colt that Bauserman said was “probably the best futurity horse that I ever rode.”  Even as a yearling, Bauserman was banking that the maternal line would hold true and that PYC Paint Your Wagon would provide untold speed.

Making their first competitive run ever, Promise Me A Wagon and Bauserman put the crowd on the edge of their seats with two good barrels. Then with a bow off the third, Bauserman relied on the heavily on his sires championship speed. They stopped the clock in 15.718.
