Dash Ta Fame, the all-time leading sire of barrel horses, died on the evening of Wednesday, July 13, of unknown causes. Dr. William Swyer, DVM, the owner of Smart Ranches, the facility where Dash Ta Fame was standing, has stated that test results conducted on the stallion’s blood and tissue will not be available for at least another week.

Dash Ta Fame ranked as the Top Sire of barrel horses for the eighth consecutive year in 2010, according to Equi-Stat, becoming the first barrel sire to produce earners of $1 million in a single year. He first achieved the moniker of Top Sire of barrel racers in 2001, and for all but one year since, it is a title that the 22-year-old son of First Down Dash and out of the Tinys Gay mare Sudden Fame has held onto with an iron grip.

Dash Ta Fame produced 242 money earners in 2010 that totaled $1,180,934 in barrel racing winnings. It was Dash Ta Fame’s fourth consecutive year earning over $900,000 and an increase of more than $200,000, or more than 20 percent, over his 2009 total.

Dash Ta Fame also entered 2011 as the Top Sire of the decade for the fifth consecutive year. He sired 437 money earners from 2000-2009 that brought in more than $5.5 million in barrel racing winnings—more than three times the amount earned by the get of second-place sire Frenchmans Guy, and more than second through fourth places combined.
Throughout his lifetime, Dash Ta Fame has sired 562 barrel racing money winners who have earned a combined $7,3889,702, according to Equi-Stat.
