College National Finals Rodeo 2018 Begins
First round leaders after the first section of action at the College National Finals Rodeo.
(Casper, Wyoming, June 12, 2018) - The College National Finals Rodeo is underway in Casper, Wyoming, for the 70th annual CNFR. The first competition round began June 10 with “Bulls, Broncs and Breakaway” matinee and evening performances, followed by the first round of slack on June 11 featuring all nine events. The competition will continue Tuesday, June 12, with another morning slack section and then the first evening performance of the Finals.
Taylor Rivera of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, topped the first section of the barrel racing with a 14.51 aboard a borrowed horse. One month prior to the CNFR Rivera's main mount Pritzi Maker (Pritzi Dash x Secret Maker x Raise A Secret) aka "Barney," suffered an injury, which removed him from competition at this year's CNFR. In search for a mount Rivera tried a pro rodeo of Danyelle Campbells', however that horse also suffered an injury taking it out of the running. Again in search for a horse Rivera called upon the Asam family. Parker Asam, a fifth-grade barrel racer, to whom Rivera gives lessons offered up "Bob," a new horse in the young competitor's arsenal. Rivera gladly accepted and Bob and Rivera made their trek to Casper. Bob and Rivera's first run together was in the first round of the CNFR.
